In the age of GPT-2, Russian bots, and deepfakes this author suggests the rolling out of seamless, ubiquitous digital signatures for the sake of democracy, security, and society.
Work needs to be done to make this solution technologically viable, but, while this shouldn't be too difficult, the biggest obstacle appears to be the need for culture change. This really hits home the fact that technology, or regulation, alone will be insufficient in safeguarding our future - education and public discourse is tantamount.
