A.I. Experts Question Amazon’s Facial-Recognition Technology

Amazon has been petitioned to stop selling Rekognition, a much criticised facial-recognition technology available through it’s cloud-based Amazon Web Services. The signatories are some of the most prominent AI researchers from Google, DeepMind, Facebook, as well as Turing Award winner, Dr. Yoshua Bengio.

The technology has been shown by an MIT study to be inaccurate at recognising both female and black faces, prompting fears that this could lead to civil liberties being undermined in the hands of the police.
