Artificial Intelligence Can Be Used to Detect Risk of Premature Death

AI is being used to predict early deaths caused by chronic disease in middle-aged populations, significantly outperforming the models previously used. The model takes into consideration factors such as the demographics and biometric, clinical, and lifestyle factors of every individual they assess.


The health data was gathered from those people recruited into the UK Biobank between 2006-10, and checked up on in 2016. This development serves as a good example of the benefits of accessing health data for research purposes. It also adds impetus to the argument that we ought to find secure ways to make more health data available to researchers, that respects sensitive personal information.
